Furyk, Holmes and Mahan Commit to Verizon Heritage

Veteran Jim Furyk will head up a distinguished group of victorious American Ryder Cuppers at the 41st annual Verizon Heritage to be played April 13-19 at the Harbour Town Golf Links.

Furyk, J.B. Holmes and Hunter Mahan have just made commitments to play, joining fellow Ryder Cuppers defending champion Boo Weekley and 2002 winner Justin Leonard who had both committed previously. 

All five turned in winning efforts against the favored Europeans last September as the U.S. team scored a one-sided victory.

“Last year’s Ryder Cup was one of the most exciting in recent history,” said Tournament Director Steve Wilmot. “It will be a thrill for our fans to watch these heroes up close at Harbour Town.”

Furyk, who has had four Top Ten finishes at the Heritage including 2 seconds, has posted 13 PGA Tour victories. Jim has been amazingly consistent on Tour, turning in 124 Top Ten finishes and earning almost $39 million, fourth on the all-time money list.

Holmes and Mahan, both 26, are two of the brightest prospects on Tour. Mahan, the former Oklahoma State All-American, has won better than $7.5 million in his brief career. He scored his first Tour victory in 2007, capturing the Travelers Championship. Hunter also led the American Ryder Cuppers by contributing 3.5 points in the victory.

Holmes, former star at the University of Kentucky, has won twice on Tour. Both victories came in the FBR Open at Scottsdale. His 2.5 points in the Ryder Cup in his native Kentucky were pivotal.
