HILTON HEAD ISLAND, SC - John Daly and J.B. Holmes, two of the longest hitters on the PGA TOUR, plus Brandt Snedeker have just committed to play in the 40th annual Verizon Heritage to be played over the Harbour Town Golf Links, April 14-20.
This trio joins an elite group of golfers who have previously committed, including defending champion Boo Weekley, Ernie Els, Zach Johnson, Justin Leonard and Stewart Cink. All will be shooting for the winner’s check of $990,000 from a record purse of $5.5 million.
The popular Daly has always attracted a large gallery at Harbour Town in his six previous visits. He’s been in the running each of the last two Heritages until the weekend. John is best known for his thrilling triumphs in both the PGA Championship and the British Open. Overall, he’s won fives times on the TOUR.
Holmes, the former University of Kentucky standout, posted his second victory on the TOUR early this year, when he won the FBR Open in Scottsdale, AR. J.B. scored his first PGA TOUR win two years ago at the same tournament. Just last week, Holmes almost made match-play history when he shot ahead of Tiger Woods, 3-up with five holes to play. Then Tiger turned on the jets and survived, going on to capture the WGC Championship.
Snedeker, the 27-year old former Vanderbilt All-American, became the first rookie to win on TOUR last season when he captured the Wyndham Championship at Greensboro, NC. Brandt is off to another good start this year, having won almost $400,000 already.
