Shipyard Golf Club First in South Carolina to Feature Diamond Zoysia Greens
Labor Day weekend, typically celebrated as the symbolic end of summer, marked a new beginning for Shipyard Golf Club as the 27-hole facility unveiled the results of a course makeover that included new bunkers and a green surface previously unexplored in the state of South Carolina. Both improvements will complement the clubhouse facelift that occurred during the spring.
“We’re excited to introduce these updates to the public,” said Dan Moscar, general manager at Shipyard
Golf Club. “The improvements to the course as well as the renovations to the clubhouse will further solidify our presence on the island as well as show our continued dedication to unrivaled golf and uncompromising service.”

It was a pleasant though not an unexpected surprise when Harbour Town Golf Links, the keystone golf course at The Sea Pines Resort and home of the popular PGA Tour event, Verizon Heritage, moved up from No. 15 to No. 14 in the national rankings of Golf Magazine's "Top 100 Best Courses You Can Play," published in the magazine's September 2008 issue.
What may have surprised a few people, however, was the appearance of the newest golf course at The Sea Pines Resort, Heron Point by Pete Dye, which debuted in the state-by-state rankings as the 15th finest public-access course in South Carolina. Unveiled by The Sea Pines Resort in September 2007 on the site of the resort's former Sea Marsh golf course, Heron Point was the only course in the state less than one-year old to make Golf Magazine's Top 15.

Beginning Friday, Aug. 29 through Monday, Sept. 1, golfers nationwide will be asked to donate a minimum of $1 in support of Patriot Golf Day, supported by the United States Golf Association and the Professional Golfers Association of America. All funds raised will benefit the Folds of Honor Foundation to provide educational scholarships for families of those who have become disabled or lost their lives in the line of duty.
The program began with USGA and PGA Member Dan Rooney, who served two tours of duty in Iraq and will be returning for another tour this summer. Major Rooney, the founder of the Folds of Honor Foundation, was determined to find a way to help these families through the power of golfers.
In 2007, more than 3,250 golf facilities nationwide participated in Patriot Golf Day and raised in excess of $1 million dollars. This year, our goal is to expand the number of participating facilities and exceed the overall contribution to this worthy cause.
To find a participating golf facility near you, please click: Patriot Club Listing.
