The Hills Course was recently named as the South Carolina Golf Course of the Year by the South Carolina Golf Course Owner's Association which cited the layout's exceptional course quality, management team, contributions to the community and contribution to the game of golf as reasons for its receipt of this prestigious honor. National award nominees will gather this coming January in San Diego to find out which course will earn the distinction as 2009 Course of the Year. Last year another layout from the Palmetto State, Myrtle Beach’s Grande Dunes, earned the top national honor. The last Hilton Head area course to be considered for the NGCOA’s highest honor was the Robert Trent Jones Oceanfront Course, also at Palmetto Dunes. The RTJ Course was named South Carolina Course of the Year in 2002.
“This is an incredible honor and a true testament to the impact that the Arthur Hills course has had on the community and the game of golf,” said Brad Marra, director of golf at Palmetto Dunes. “The Hills course embodies the values we cherish at Palmetto Dunes, offering year-round championship golf in the heart of the South Carolina Lowcountry.”
“You should be very proud of the respect your fellow owners and operators have shown with this award,” wrote Terry Sedalik, Executive Director of the SCGCOA. “Your efforts to make your property and the golf industry more successful are hopefully recognized in some measure by your fellow South Carolina course owners with this selection.”
